Christian Art Work by Harry Anderson
Harry Anderson is a famed painter whose works have been featured in Collier’s, The
Saturday Evening Post and The Woman’s Home Companion. Born in 1906, Anderson’s
initial interest in college studies was inspired by his mathematical strengths. A painting
class at Syracuse University quickly changed his mind about his professional goals, and he
soon majored exclusively in fine arts. His early jobs should inspire all Christians. With
faith in Christ, he sold candy during the day and visited art agencies at night to sell his
art. His talent would soon be recognized, and he was able to devote himself full-time to
painting. Though Anderson’s first paintings were secular, his interest in Christian art soon
became his focus, and his works remain some of the most memorable Christian artworks of the
1950s and onward.
Anderson’s art is an expression of the presence of Christ in daily life. The
compassionate and strong Christ is depicted as present during the caring of invalids, as a
counselor, and as the loving God to children. By mixing modern scenes with Jesus’ image, you
get a true sense that Christ not only embodied Anderson’s work, but is always accessible to
each person. He is the faithful watcher, counselor and friend to whom you can always
turn.
