Christian Art Work by James Seward
James Seward is a gifted Christian artist and an ordained minister. After military service
in the 1940s, Seward wanted to explore his artistic gifts and enrolled at the Howard Boyd
Johnson at Watkins Institute in Nashville, and then at the Chicago Institute of Art. Working
first as an artist for Union Gospel Press in the 1950s, he decided to become a fulltime
illustrator and painter on a freelance basis. Since then, Seward's work has been well
appreciated by the Christian community. Many of his paintings occupy places of honor in
churches throughout the country. Though his job as a minister is now his highest calling,
Seward's art continues to be an expression of his love for Christ.
Seward's paintings often take on two major subjects: depictions of gospel events or
modern views of people at worship. In either form, his clear celebration of the Lord is
evidenced with technical genius and gorgeously realistic drawings. For a home or a church,
a Seward Christian art print will be a great treasure.
