Christian Art Work by Rembrandt Harmenz VanRijn
Rembrandt is one of the Dutch painting masters, whose paintings produced in the 17th
century have taken on both religious and secular themes. Born in 1606, in the Netherlands,
Rembrandt was the only member of his family to have a formal education. Unfortunately he
was much more interested in art and poetry than in other subjects, and today we might call
the man a high school drop-out. Despite lacking interest in his studies, Rembrandt learned
enough to take on numerous time-honored religious figures and scenes. His art production
during his lifetime was astonishing. In addition to painting over 600 paintings, he also
had left the world 1400 drawings and 300 etchings.
Rembrandt is particularly remembered for his use of light in paintings, and his
increasing precision in painting and drawing the human face. You simply cannot fail to be
inspired by his work. It is noted that as he aged, and experienced some tragedy in life,
like the loss of his beloved wife, his paintings actually became lighter and more
luminescent, suggesting that he was on a constant journey to find the light in God's love.
Rembrandt can leave no doubt in your mind that such genius is the product of a loving
creator.
